iCARP CIC

iCARP CIC is changing the lives of military veterans, 999 personnel, vulnerable young people and many more by helping them overcome the debilitating symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety and many other challenging conditions. Participants are taken on fishing trips, during which they are encouraged to open up about their experiences and provide support to each other. The trips have been made possible thanks to donations / sponsorships and there is no charge for military veterans or 999 personnel with PTSD.

The iCARP programme comprises of three main elements:

  • Green exercise (particularly fishing) is the use of being out in the natural world in order to increase well-being and alleviate the symptoms of mental ill health.
  • Encouragement for participants to share their experiences rather than bottling up their feelings
  • On-going peer support.

We run a research programme working with the NHS and the University of Essex to show that what we do has a genuine positive effect on people and in order to do that, we need to use rigorous scientific research to test this out.

iCARP CIC have been working with Epping Forest Honey establishing Bee colonies at our well-being centre since 2022. With their support we have been able to formally train up our volunteers to become qualified bee keepers and we are registered with the British Bee Keepers Association.  We sell the honey and use the profits raised to run programmes to support people struggling with their mental well-being.
