Pioneer Sailing Trust
Pioneer Sailing Trust provides outdoor, sailing-based wellbeing experiences for young people and adults across Essex. Our therapeutic sailing trips support mental health, confidence, teamwork and resilience, particularly for people facing challenges such as poor mental health, SEND, addiction, or social exclusion. Time on the water offers a calm, supportive environment to build skills, self-esteem and a sense of achievement. Activities are fully supervised by experienced crew and delivered from Brightlingsea, with countywide reach.
In-person
Further info
We offer day sails and residential sailing experiences aboard Pioneer CK18, a traditionally restored sailing vessel. Groups take part in practical sailing activities designed to improve confidence, communication, teamwork and wellbeing. Experiences are supportive, inclusive and adapted to group needs. We aim to provide funded or subsidised trips for groups who may not otherwise access outdoor or therapeutic activities. Our experienced crew regularly work with vulnerable groups and those with additional needs.
Who can use this service?
Young people aged 8+ and adults living in Essex, including those experiencing mental health challenges, social isolation, SEND, addiction recovery, homelessness or disadvantage. Suitable for community groups, youth groups, schools and organisations supporting vulnerable people. Participants must be able to manage steps on board the vessel; safety requirements apply.
How are services delivered?
In-person, group-based sailing activities delivered on board our vessel from Brightlingsea, Essex. Sessions are delivered as day sails or residential experiences and are fully supervised by three trained and experienced crew. Services are delivered outdoors on the water and tailored to the needs and abilities of each group.
